AX – D365FO – number sequences explained
Writing on his blog, Marco Saad noted that number strings in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations are used to systematically and automatically generate and manage unique identifiers for different record types throughout the system.
He pointed out that many record types require a sequence of numbers before a record can be successfully created. Examples include suppliers, sales orders, purchase orders, etc.
In his blog post, Saad walked readers through the basics of number sequences. It included information about the shape of a number string, how number strings actually worked, how to create a new number string from scratch, and how to run the number string wizard.
