The man killed outside a Broward strip club was a Miami-Dade businessman, relatives say


HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Nearly a week ago, a gunman killed a 35-year-old Miami-Dade County businessman outside a strip club in Broward County.

The shooting happened July 1 in the Cheetah Hallandale Beach parking lot, at 100 Ansin Blvd., just east of Interstate 95.

Relatives identified the victim as Derrick Michel, co-owner of Da Cava, a bar, lounge and grill at 13641 NW 7 Ave., in North Miami. The trademark was registered in 2020.

“Your life was a blessing, your memory is treasured, you are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure,” a representative for Da Cave wrote on Facebook.

Michel’s list of business ventures also included Dominican Beach Fest, HIA records, HIA Entertainment and Euphoria Marketing Group, records show.

Michel’s family and friends plan to host a private wake Thursday in Miami-Dade. Anyone with information about the fatal shooting is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
