Esplanade Association’s Free River Fit Series Returns – Beacon Hill Times


The Esplanade Association’s free River Fit Summer Fitness Series returns this week.

“We’re thrilled to bring back our River Fit series of free summer fitness classes for another season as we expand to offer more opportunities than ever before,” said Samuel Englert, manager of programs and partnerships at the Esplanade Association. “This is annually one of our most popular programs with thousands of annual participants. This year’s eight-week schedule will include options for many different fitness interests, from heart-pumping Zumba to senior-focused classes and sunrise sessions and more.”

River Fit features a variety of outdoor fitness classes, including dance classes, senior workouts, yoga and more, taught for a variety of experience and ability levels. People of all ages and fitness levels are invited to get fit for free in the park while enjoying scenic waterfront views with instructors from Healthworks, ‘Froca, B/SPOKE, Kick It by Eliza and Cindy Sullivan Fitness.

Zumba, run by Healthworks, takes place from Monday to August 29 from 6pm to 7pm at the Hatch Shell Memorial. Using Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow movements, the routines are led by Healthworks instructors and feature interval training where fast and slow rhythms are combined with resistance training. ‘Froca takes place on Tuesdays until August 30 from 6pm to 7pm at the Hatch Shell Memorial. A celebration of song and dance from across Africa and the Caribbean, ‘Froca is set to popular African and Caribbean music and draws on movements and dances rooted in deep tradition, along with steps that have become popular in recent years. ‘Froca was created by Sylver Rochelin Randrianantenaina, a professional dancer and choreographer from Madagascar. Yoga with B/SPOKE takes place Wednesdays through August 31st from 7:30am to 8:30am at Fiedler Field. Each session will begin with guided breathing work and end with a moment of awareness that will allow each participant to bring the intention of teaching beyond the studio into their life. Kick It By Eliza takes place Fridays July 15th through September 2nd from 7:30am to 8:30am at Fiedler Field. Kick To is a 13-round, music-driven, kickboxing-inspired fitness method with no equipment required other than a yoga mat, if desired. Some rounds target specific body parts (such as legs or arms), but most of the class is focused on cardio. There are many options for modification, so this class really is for everyone. The second of two Fresh Air Fitness with Cindy pop-up sessions takes place on Tuesday, August 9, from 10 am to 11 am at Fiedler Field. (The first session was held on July 12.) This fun outdoor class on the Esplanade will include a full-body workout that prioritizes the needs of seniors, with a focus on effective body mechanics and injury prevention. It will also offer a variety of exercises to increase muscle strength, range of motion and make participants more durable for everyday activities. Fresh Air is hosted by Cindy in association with Beacon Hill Village. In addition, the Esplanade Association also offers its music and movement program in partnership with the nonprofit Boston Music Project, with two 45-minute sessions every Friday from July 15 to September 2 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., at Stoneman Playground. . During this interactive music program designed for children and their caregivers, children will sing songs, dance to music and enjoy a story led by trained Boston Music Project artists. Caregivers are encouraged to attend and participate in musical games with their children.
