An employee of a financial firm was among two people robbed in two separate incidents in rural areas of the district in the past 24 hours.
Mandeep Singh, a resident of Batala, works as a collection agent at the Batala branch of Bharat Finance Inclusion Limited. He told the police that he had collected installments from Bagga and Athwal villages yesterday and was going towards Arjan Manga village when he was stopped by three persons riding a bicycle.
He said they hit him with sharp weapons and took away a kit containing Rs 62,000 and a purse with 2 ATM cards. Following the complaint, the police registered a case under sections 379-B and 34 of the IPC against the three unidentified kidnappers.
In another case, Jagtar Singh of Jania Tana village in Jandiala was robbed of Rs 15,000 by six unidentified persons near Manawala here on Thursday. The police have registered a case.
Jagtar Singh told the police that he had hired an auto rickshaw from his village yesterday and got down near Pingalwar in Manawala on GT Main Road at 7.30 pm. He said he was urinating in the open when six people standing nearby came to him. He said they demanded his mobile phone, but he refused to hand it over, after which the rioters started beating him.
He stated that he was robbed of his mobile phone and purse containing 15,000 dinars. He received injuries on his hands and head as the accused sped away on two motorcycles. He said he couldn’t read their license plates.
The police have registered a case under Articles 379-B and 323 of the Criminal Code against unidentified persons. An investigation is underway to identify the suspects.
