Greenville County Board of Finance Advances Funding Measures


The Greenville County Council The Finance Committee approved funding proposals for three fire departments, including two property tax increases, at the July 11 board meeting.

With the board’s approval, funding proposals for the Boiling Springs, Clear Spring and Canebrake fire departments will go before the full council for consideration later this month.

The committee approved Boiling Springs’ request to maintain the current processing rate, and in a separate vote also approved the department’s plans to issue $11.25 million in bonds to build a new main station at the intersection of Garlington Road and Hartness Drive.

The commission also approved spending plans for:

  • Clear Spring Fire and Rescue District — The Simpsonville-area department has requested a 2.2 mill increase to maintain current service amid rising operating costs. According to the department’s request, the increase would generate an additional $223,764 annually.
  • Canebrake Fire Department — The department near Fountain Inn requested a 5.7 mill increase to add personnel and replace outdated equipment. According to the department’s request, the increase would generate an additional $109,565 annually.
