Karachi, July 7, 2022: As part of his trip to Karachi from July 6-9, the US Department of State’s Special Representative (S/R) for Commercial and Business Affairs Dilawar Syed visited the National Incubation Center Karachi (NICK) on July 7 for a series of engagements with Pakistani officials. , innovators and entrepreneurs.
S/R Syed met with Federal Minister of Information Technology and Telecommunications Syed Amin ul Haque to discuss how the United States and Pakistan can work together to strengthen Pakistan’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. After the meeting, S/R Syed toured the center with NICK officials and met Pakistani entrepreneurs.
While at NICK, S/R Syed also spoke on a panel on “Promoting US-Pakistan Innovation and Investment”. Atif Rais Khan, founder and CEO of the technology company LMKT, and others also participated. Syed Akbar Zaidi, Executive Director, Institute of Business Administration. The event, moderated by journalist Ariba Shahid, highlighted Pakistan’s entrepreneurial potential and how to expand it.
“The United States will continue to work to expand our bilateral trade, strengthen investment, and expand entrepreneurial and educational opportunities for all as part of our efforts to build on 75 years of US-Pakistan economic cooperation,” said S/R Syed.
After the panel, S/R Syed participated in a panel discussion with Pakistani women entrepreneurs who have successfully started their own businesses. Highlighting US support for the empowerment of Pakistani women and girls, S/R Syed emphasized the importance of fostering sustainable and inclusive economic growth for Pakistan’s long-term prosperity. “Strengthening digital and financial literacy for women and marginalized groups, for example, will help ensure that Pakistan can realize its entrepreneurial potential,” he said.
